The Children’s Rights Impact Assessment (CRIA) was developed at the behest of the Ministry of the Interior and Kingdom Relations (BZK). It is meant to be an instrument that ensures the best possible evaluation of any digital service in terms of children’s rights and welfare. With this tool, risks of violations of children’s rights are mapped out. Its main purpose is to help facilitate discussions on the impact of digital services to children’s rights. While the assessment can also serve as an accountability tool, the main focus is on raising awareness from the dialogues that ensue during the CRIA process.
Legal framework
Apart from a manual and a completion form to help structure the assessment, the CRIA also features a legal framework. The intent of this document is to offer background information and context on the basis of which the prototype for the CRIA was developed.
