The new Cybersecurity Act (abbreviated Cbw in Dutch) enhances the digital security of municipalities and provides better protection against cyber threats. The Association of Netherlands Municipalities (VNG) is assisting administrators in implementing this significant measure law.
Municipalities need to enhance their security systems to provide a secure environment for residents. The Cbw helps protect sensitive data and continues public services.

On 15 May 2025, VNG organised a webinar on preparing for the Cbw. This online meeting was specifically designed for mayors and councillors, and the recording can now be viewed (Dutch).
Improving digital resilience
The Cbw is a significant step towards improving digital security and resilience for municipalities, which is urgently needed to better screen essential processes such as financial administration, civic affairs, and traffic control systems. Without adequate information security, municipalities face the risk of disruption to vital services, economic losses, and a loss of public trust.
