August 2024: AI Act comes into force
The AI Act is coming into force in August 2024. It has since been implemented in phases.
February 2025: Provisions on prohibited practices enforced
6 months after taking effect, the provisions on prohibited practices are enforced.
Furthermore, starting from 2 February 2025, organisations implementing AI must promote AI literacy.
August 2026: provisions on general-purpose AI models are in force
A year after taking effect, provisions on general-purpose AI models are now in force, and oversight must be in place.
2 August 2026: Transparency Rules for AI systems taking effect
2 December 2027: Provisions for high-risk AI come into force
2 August 2028: Provisions for products with embedded high-risk AI come into force
August 2030: Requirements for high-risk AI systems
All AI systems at public sector organisations that were on the market before the regulation took effect must meet the requirements for high-risk AI systems within 6 years.
