The Netherlands’ Digitalisation Strategy (NDS) plays a key role within the government. Policymakers refer to it, and organisations incorporate it into plans and presentations. Yet, Richard Vielvoije, Director of the Dutch Government Organisation for Digitalisation and Innovation (Rijksorganisatie ODI), observes that many people are still not fully familiar with its content.
To address this, he commissioned a poster that provides a clear, at-a-glance overview of the strategy. He now uses it in discussions across government departments.
A practical tool for discussions
Vielvoije brings the poster to meetings where the NDS is discussed. Conversation partners respond positively to this approach, he says. The aim is to make the NDS clearer and more tangible for a wide range of government professionals.
“I carry it with me everywhere. Whenever the NDS comes up in conversation, I unfold the poster and ask, ‘Look, which part are you actually talking about?’ People respond enthusiastically to that,” says Vielvoije.
6 key themes
The NDS consists of 6 key themes, each with its own direction. The strategy follows the principle of “central agreement, federated implementation”; government organisations work to adopt standards, shared solutions, and building blocks at their own pace.
Available to everyone
The poster serves as a tool for anyone working with or affected by the NDS, offering a compact overview of the 6 themes and their objectives.
The poster is available for download on ODI’s website (Dutch).
