The Island Commissioners of Bonaire, St Eustatius and Saba have jointly signed their Archive Agendas with the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science (OCW). The agendas aim to further strengthen the foundations of archives and information management across the 3 islands that form the Caribbean Netherlands.
Within these agendas, each island sets out its priorities and actions until 2030. The focus is on 5 key areas:
- Legislation and regulations
- Work processes
- Enhancement of expertise
- Digital infrastructure
- Archive repositories
Beyond the individual tasks for each island, signing these agreements enables Bonaire, St Eustatius, and Saba (BES) to exchange knowledge and experience on legislation and work processes. They are also exploring collaboration in training, recruitment and digital infrastructure.
Sustainably accessible information
Effective archive and information management is essential. It supports governance in fulfilling its duties, ensures transparency and legal certainty for residents, and guarantees that information remains sustainably accessible now and in the future.
The Archive Agendas were developed in collaboration with the Ministry of OCW and the National Archives. They align with the requirements of the BES Public Records Act and stem from the commitments made in the Culture Covenant, which specifically highlights archives, archive repositories, digitalisation and the online availability of heritage.
