New Generation PKIoverheid Certificates Now Available

New generation PKIoverheid certificates are available as of now. These certificates by Logius will replace the current G3 and G1 Private certificates. Organisations can already start making the transition. All certificates must be replaced no later than November 2028. Those who act in time will be able to continue their digital operations in a safe and secure manner.

PKIoverheid certificates are issued by Logius, part of the Ministry of the Interior and Kingdom Relations. PKI (Public Key Infrastructure) for the government, or PKIoverheid for short, is an agreement scheme. It ensures secure data exchange and connectivity between government, citizens and businesses and between authorities. The certificates are vital to secure digital communication. For instance, they validate the identity of websites, systems and individuals. As such, they enable secure connections (https://) and digital signatures.

Future proof security

Certificates play an increasingly critical role in ensuring digital security. Additionally, regulations are changing, and security frameworks are constantly being made more stringent. To address these challenges, the new generation of certificates G3+ and G4 has been developed. These certificates are designed to meet the latest standards and provide enhanced protection against emerging digital threats.

Don’t delay, transition to the new certificates in time

The new certificates are already available. Logius recommends organisations to transition to the new certificates as soon as possible, since all certificates ought to be replaced by November 2028. And although this still seems a long way off, a timely transition will undoubtedly help prevent malfunctions and vulnerabilities.

How to prepare for the transition?

Identify the certificates your organisation uses and assess their compatibility with the new generation. In addition, consult your certificate vendor or IT specialist: Collaboration with experts will help guarantee a smooth and effective implementation of the new certificates.

Find out more on transitioning to the new PKIoverheid certificates on the Logius website.
