Currently, digitalisation, geopolitical tensions, and the rise of Artificial Intelligence (AI) are impacting democracy. Therefore, on 9-10 October 2025, the Digital Democracy The Hague conference will take place. It offers a platform for dialogue and collaboration among governments, businesses, educational institutions, and civil society organisations.
The conference aims to enhance understanding, foster collaboration, and expand networks. Attendees are encouraged to think creatively, form new contacts, and gather inspiration for the future of digital democracy. The event provides space for (local) governments, businesses, academic institutions and civil society to come together and exchange knowledge and experiences.
Programme and speakers
The programme consists of a theoretical part, featuring keynotes and panels. Here, both scientific research results and industry research findings will be shared. The practical part of the programme will consist of workshops and case studies.
Nienke Meijer, Supervisory Board Member at the National Citizens’ Climate Council (Nationaal Burgerberaad Klimaat), will deliver the opening keynote. Marleen Stikker (from the Digital City, among others) will highlight the broader question of the impact of digitalisation on our society. Other speakers include Tom Wilkinson from the Scottish government, who will discuss the impact of data on democratic processes, and representatives from the Finnish Innovation Funding, Sitra. Additionally, European research projects will share their latest insights.
