The online decision tool for the open publication of government information and data has been fully redesigned. The Open Publishing decision tool serves as a practical resource for choosing the appropriate file format or document standard for open, vendor-neutral publication.
By answering a series of brief questions, users receive personalised advice. This advice adheres to current laws and regulations. It also helps ensure that information is published in a findable, accessible, interoperable, and reusable way.
New version of the decision tool
The earlier version of Open Publishing was several years old and no longer met current needs. As a result, the Open State Foundation and the Netherlands Standardisation Forum (Forum Standaardisatie) chose to overhaul the tool entirely. The new version of the decision tool is now available, coinciding with Document Freedom Day 2026.
Open Publishing is an initiative by the Open State Foundation and the Standardisation Forum, with contributions from the Ministry of the Interior and Kingdom Relations, the National Archives, ACOI, RvIHH, developer.overheid.nl, KVAN, and Open Nederland. It is part of the Standards Action Point of the Standardisation Forum within the Open Government Action Plan 2023–2027.
Open Office Hours on open and vendor-neutral publishing
To mark the launch of the renewed decision tool, the Standardisation Forum is hosting an Open Office Hours session. You are welcome to join with all your questions on Wednesday, 1 April (no joke), between 14:00 and 15:00. No registration is required.
