In 2024, Dutch people logged in over 550 million times using DigiD, an increase of almost 15 per cent compared to 2023, when the counter stood at 480 million. This means DigiD, an electronic identifcation and access service by Logius, is increasingly becoming part of everyday life in The Netherlands. Ranging from taking care of tax returns to healthcare declarations: more and more people are managing their affairs securely online using DigiD.
Similarly, more organisations have started the use of DigiD. For instance, it is now possible to log on to most healthcare providers and the apps of health insurance companies with DigiD. Before, these apps would only ask for DigiD at 1st use. Now, it has become the standard. This means that people can also access and view their medical records or apply for healthcare benefits using their DigiD.
Secure login increasingly popular
Users are increasingly opting for secure login methods such as the DigiD app or SMS verification. In 2023, 340,000 people were still logging on using only a username and password. By 2024, that number has dropped to 90,000, a decrease of almost 75 per cent, indicating that awareness of online security among the Dutch is growing.
Support for everyone
Logius aims to ensure DigiD remains accessible, including to those who are not as digitally proficient. With that in mind, they conduct regular user surveys and offer support through their helpdesk in both Dutch and English. In addition, they collaborate with Digital Government Information Point (English) (Informatiepunten Digitale Overheid, abbreviated IDO in Dutch) and special interest organisations, keeping DigiD easy to use for everyone.
