The Ministry of the Interior and Kingdom Relations (BZK) has granted subsidies to 20 projects from the Digital Government Innovation Budget. This €4 million budget supports the realisation of new ideas and helps to improve digital service delivery by the government.
A variety of projects
The innovative projects address various issues. One project aims to assist Caribbean students in overcoming barriers when transitioning to the Dutch educational system with the use of an ID Wallet. The “Leesplank” project focuses on creating and compiling texts to illustrate the requirements for developing government language models. Two projects will tackle the Open Government Act (in Dutch, Wet open overheid, abbreviated Woo), and several explore the potential of AI for government use. View all subsidised projects (in Dutch).
Selection process
Nearly 60 project proposals were submitted, after which the pre-selection process began. Doubts arose about nine projects. The project Initiators were invited to pitch to an expert jury. The jury evaluated the projects based on feasibility, scalability, innovation, reusability, user involvement, and future planning. After careful consideration, 20 projects were selected to obtain a subsidy from the Innovation Budget.
Work Agenda
Innovation is a key priority for the Ministry of BZK. Within the Values-Driven Digitisation Work Agenda, innovation plays a significant role. Projects are required to collaborate with other government or public organisations, delivering outcomes that are open-source.
