Resources and support

The Ministry of the Interior and Kingdom Relations is responsible for the digital accessibility policy. Various organisations work together with the ministry on this task.

DigiToegankelijk Expertise Centre

At the DigiToegankelijk Expertise Centre (Dutch) run by Logius, government organisations can access advice and information on digital accessibility. The centre focuses on 2 primary resources: a knowledge base and a dashboard.

DigiToegankelijk Community(Dutch)
The community brings together professionals from government organisations. Experienced experts share their knowledge, while others can ask questions and learn from colleagues’ real-world examples.

Dashboard DigiToegankelijk(Dutch)
The dashboard provides a summary of digital accessibility across all government organisations. It clearly shows how accessible each organisation currently is, offering helpful insights for the organisation itself, citizens, and regulators.

User-friendly web applications and websites

ICTU supports the NL Design System Community (Dutch), which collaborates to create reusable building blocks for accessible, user-friendly web applications and websites. This allows government organisations to avoid reinventing the wheel by sharing and utilising each other’s solutions. Visitors also find guidance on achieving and maintaining digital accessibility, including details on accessibility standards (WCAG) and the digital accessibility law.

Tests

The PDF Checker (Dutch) makes it easy to assess the accessibility of your documents.

Basistoegankelijk (Dutch) measures, evaluates, and publishes the digital accessibility of all government websites.

NLdoc converts any document into an accessible version. Available to the public from Q3 2025.

While readability is not an essential accessibility requirement, it is vital to ensure your texts are easy to understand. You can use this readability tester (Dutch) to check your text’s readability level.

The official EU open data portal, data.europa.eu, offers a guide on data visualisation. It covers 7 themes: from basics like chart selection, colour use, and accessibility to advanced topics such as interactive visualisations and data storytelling. A valuable resource for clear data communication.
