The European Digital Infrastructure Consortium (EDIC) for Digital Commons has begun its initial projects, further strengthening European collaboration on open digital infrastructure.
One of the initial initiatives is a ‘100-Day Challenge’ to create independent open-source components. Additionally, a pilot scheme for a European Sovereign Tech Fund is in progress, carried out in collaboration with the German Sovereign Tech Agency. This pilot aims to strengthen vital open digital infrastructure throughout Europe.
New director for the start-up phase
Starting 1 April, Laurent Rojey will take on the role of Director at EDIC Digital Commons. He will manage the startup phase, assemble a team, and create the initial programme. His work will foster collaboration among member states, businesses, and open-source communities.
Collaborating for digital sovereignty
EDIC Digital Commons is part of the European Digital Decade programme. It supports member states in joint digital projects, with a particular focus on open-source software, digital commons, and shared digital infrastructure. An example of this is the development of European workplace software.
Established in October 2025 by France, Germany, the Netherlands, Italy, and Luxembourg, EDIC has since welcomed several observer countries, including Poland, Denmark, and Finland. This brings the total to 12 participating nations. Headquartered in Paris, EDIC remains open to all EU member states.
