The cabinet is committed to modernising the Generic Digital Infrastructure (GDI). The Long-Term Programme for Digital Government Infrastructure (MIDO) contributes significantly to this effort.
Cabinet ambitions
The cabinet aims to strengthen government operations. One of the means to achieve this is through a modern IT architecture. To this end, the cabinet is investing in the GDI. MIDO has been established to guide the modernisation of the GDI effectively.
Responsible organisations
The Ministry of the Interior and Kingdom Relations (BZK) is responsible for the development and ongoing advancements of the GDI. Other departments share responsibility for the substantive choices and relevant legislation that affect the GDI. Political decision-making on this matter takes place in the Ministerial Committee on Implementation. The GDI is jointly financed and used by municipalities, departments, and implementation organisations. These parties are also represented in the governance structure of the GDI, as established in MIDO.
Ongoing actions
To realise these ambitions, the Ministry of BZK has initiated the following actions:
- Launch of the Long-Term Programme for Digital Government Infrastructure (MIDO).
- Inclusion of the GDI in the proposed digital government legislation.
- More centralised financing of the GDI by the Ministry of BZK.
